The Socio-Economic Institute for Development (SEID) is at the forefront of addressing Lebanon’s critical environmental challenges through its comprehensive work in research, advocacy, and policy development. One of the key initiatives SEID participates in is the Tahawor Project, led by the Adyan Foundation and the Rashad Center for Cultural Governance. Tahawor is a national initiative designed to foster dialogue and build consensus among Lebanese Members of Parliament (MPs), civil society organizations (CSOs), and experts. The project focuses on crucial areas, including human rights, reforms, education, and the environment. SEID’s leadership in the environmental pillar of this project helps drive actionable policy reforms aimed at tackling Lebanon’s most pressing environmental concerns.
SEID’s Role in Tahawor
SEID plays a leading role in the environmental component of the Tahawor Project, focusing on key sectors such as wastewater treatment, solid waste management, and air pollution. SEID not only conducts research but also engages in lobbying with MPs to garner support for environmental reform suggestions and draft laws. By facilitating discussions and building consensus among legislators, experts, and civil society, SEID works to ensure that critical environmental reforms are adopted and implemented.

Research, Recommendations, and Legislative Advocacy
SEID’s work in Tahawor builds on its expertise in environmental advocacy and research, focusing on the scientific, technical, financial, legal, and governance aspects of Lebanon’s environmental sectors. Through comprehensive studies on wastewater treatment, solid waste management, and air pollution, SEID generates data-driven insights that guide policy development and legislative reforms. These findings inform discussions with MPs and stakeholders, helping shape practical solutions to Lebanon’s environmental challenges.
SEID’s research has resulted in the creation of policy briefs, position papers, and draft laws, which have been submitted to parliamentary committees such as the Environment Committee and the Public Works, Energy, and Water Committee. SEID actively lobbies MPs to gain their support and signatures on environmental reform suggestions and draft laws, ensuring these reforms reach the legislative agenda.
